History of Western Art Development (Volume I and II)

The book was included in the publication plan of the Beijing People’s Fine Arts Publishing House in 1985 and, after five years of continuous revision, was officially published and distributed in 1990. In June 1985, my postgraduate tutor, Liu Ruli, wrote a preface for this book, stating, “Before the publication of this book, I read through it, deliberated on certain chapters, and corrected some sections. Publishing it under both our names is a way to share the beauty, but it’s hard to escape blame. As for any mistakes, of course, I take responsibility for them.” In the publishing statement, the Beijing People’s Fine Arts Publishing House emphasized that this book is the largest Western art history monograph published in the 1980s in terms of text volume. Its characteristics include abundant information, detailed discussions, and clear organization.
