Hudson's Talks in New York Studio - 3

Artist Hudson Shaoxia Zhang's creative practice at his Manhattan studio in New York is consistently rooted in art historical research. As a creator trained in art history, he continues his deep exploration of painting-related themes—particularly focusing on his beloved European landscape traditions (from Corot and Constable to Monet's early works), as well as diverse styles like the Russian landscape school, American-style landscape painting, and Fauvism. Through analyzing classical works, he accumulates inspiration to shape the style of his golf course paintings.

The studio's proximity to art institutions like MoMA and the Metropolitan Museum serves as an "inspiration station" for his work: when creativity stalls, observing original artworks in museums infuses fresh perspectives into his thinking. This "research-creation-exhibition viewing" cycle not only anchors his personal style within the context of art history but also enables his paintings of golf courses—a unique subject—to evolve into a creative practice that bridges tradition and contemporary expression while incorporating diverse artistic experiences.
